Review of Cat People (1942) by Amber B — 23 May 2011
This is one the best horror films ever made, it's highly effective in building tension and suspense and considering how low a budget Tourneur had it's amazing what he's able to do. Cat People adhears to the less you see the more you get style of filmmaking as done in classic films such as Hitchcock's Psycho or Spielberg's Jaws.
I've always held the belief that the less money you give an artist the better the results. Talent shines through adversity and in this film it does in spades. Though most people haven't heard of Cat People it is definitely one of the most influential horror films of all time.
A perfect use of light and shadow.
