Review of Cat People (1942) by Matt D — 08 Aug 2018
What a weird little film this is!
First and foremost I was struck by the beauty of its cinematography. This is black and white film photography at its finest and for that alone its worth watching.
The rest of the film is sort of a mixed bag in that it hasn't necessarily aged very well. It very much has to be viewed in the context of what early 1940s audiences might have thought about it and in that regard it might feel a little bit radical but by today's standards it is a mostly tame - but perfectly paced - affair.
