This adaptation of the Tennessee Williams play featured great performances by Paul Newman, Elizabeth Taylor, and Burl Ives. Tennessee Williams plays were very popular with Hollywood during hi time and almost all of his major works have been adapted.

The film is not a visual wonder, and it is pretty clear that this is a stage adaptation, but this isn?t really that much of a problem, the material is strong enough to work without cinematic flair. Some of the play?s themes, like homosexuality and suicide, were softened by the censorship of the time.

Still, the acting and script are really so good that they can withstand the flaws.
