Review of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) by Walker W — 21 Dec 2008
CONSENSUS: The best adaptation of a Tennessee Williams play (along with A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE)and certainly one of the greatest Southern dramas ever. A steamy, sensual picture that meticulously depicts the importance of intimacy and love within relationships.
Newman, as always, is amazing in his role and grievously distant from his wife and family. Taylor epitomizes sexual frustration and marital dedication, while Ives is burly and ablaze as Big Daddy. Erotic in subject matter, yet tastefully handled.
Painful in its delivery, but hopeful as a whole. This is an example of true character study perfection. MY GRADE: A+.
