Review of Cat Ballou (1965) by Jareth S — 10 Dec 2010
I'm bewildered how much love this ridiculously overrated western gets, so I'll have to attribute it to Jane Fonda (who also made that cheesy crap known as BARBARELLA a cult favorite). Somehow this dumb movie is the one the great Lee Marvin is known for instead of his other, more noteworthy movie achievements. It's also a letdown to see singer Nat King Cole end his career on such a down note as part of a half-hearted goofball two-man greek chorus.
If you want a western type action movie with babes and guns, I'd suggest Louis Malle's goofy and preposterous, but highly entertaining VIVA MARIA instead -- idiot plot holes and all.
