Review of Cat Ballou (1965) by Jonejarocki — 24 Mar 2021
There's a certain thing to be said for Jane Fonda movies with really catchy theme songs. Cat Ballou is a comedy in that odd 1960s way where things seem to be playing a little too large to really get the laugh they're desiring.
The story and characters are way too generic, and outside the charm of the actors playing them (especially Fonda and Marvin) never really gave me any reason to care about them. However, the movie is bright and colorful in a way rarely seen anymore, and when the comedy works, it works exceptionally well.
Also like I said, the recurring Greek Chorus of Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye is a charming touch.
