Review of Casualties of War (1989) by Gabrielle W — 09 May 2007
I'm not an expert on Nam movies but I know there are plenty to fill a library. This was a very gripping movie, something that leaves you thinking for a few days. I found it very powerful and at times very hard to stomach and watch.
The scene where J. Fox's character sits in the rain and listens to the rape is one of the hardest scenes I had to watch. It's really horrible when you actually see a vision of what really is going on or happened in past wars.
I thought everyone did a good job, maybe Penn was a but over the top with the accent but he was very convincing at playing the character you love to hate.
Like I said, I can't compare this to other Nam movies as I have yet to see quite a few but on it's own it's a brilliant powerful film that is very thought provoking and in many ways sad but has to be seen.
