Review of Castle Freak (1996) by Braden A — 05 Jun 2006
So-so writing, acting and direction, but it's just a damn-good, gory time. Jeffrey Combs is awesome as always...superbly over-the-top.
The castle freak himself looks awesome and is pretty creepy, and I felt very bad for him. I really got the feeling that he didn't want to hurt people at first, but just didn't know anything other than pain and the way he had been treated. When he was with the blind daughter at the end, I really got the impression that he was trying to love her, not hurt her, and when he realized she was blind and couldn't see his ugliness, that made him feel even closer to her.
Anyways, to end my rant, I enjoyed it. It's cheaply made, but often the best ideas come from these little films.
