Review of Cast Away (2000) by Danny O — 18 Apr 2015
Cast Away is a very interesting movie. Tom Hanks as usual steals the show, proving he can play just about any character yet again. We get a nice build up showing his life, and then a well executed plane crash scene.
Then for most if the remaining time, it is Hanks stranded on an island alone, trying to survive. The island scenes are very compelling, Hanks completely believable as a man starting to go insane and talking to a volleyball.
Without spoiling anything, the ending is extremely drawn out, full of clichés and unresolved questions. The movie could have easily been 2 hours, the editing of this overlong film's runtime could have been much more impactful and shorter.
. Other than the boring end, it's a great movie. But as a whole, it's not as perfect as the set up and middle portion. Cast Away gets 4/5 stars (A-).
