Review of Casshern (2004) by Dave C — 21 Apr 2008
Stylistically beautiful elements: visuals that alternate between black and white, saturated single colour shots, desaturated shots and plenty of filter effects; well-placed classical music; Dune-like retro-future steampunk aesthetic; a storyline covering steam cells, ethnic cleansing and the meaning of war; and a clockwork robot army.
Unfortunately, and perhaps because of the challenge of combining so many great ingredients, Casshern doesn't all come together to live up to its promise.
