Review of Casshern (2004) by Josh S — 03 May 2009
It has its pros and cons, lets start with the pros...
The special FX in this movie are spectacular, they are very realistic at times and very beautiful but not so realistic other times.
The story could actually be from a realistic future, today we have cloning and research in stem cells, and that could become a kind of neo cell as in this movie.
The scenery had much color and was very interesting to look at, but its wasn't always a beautiful picture, some of the scenes where dark and dirty. You had to put it all togrther and see what the colors and the images meant and indicated.
The cons are unfortunaly for my sake a bit bigger then the pros, but here goes...
Its a bit of a hard story to follow, its actually quit confusing at times, maybe I wasn't consentraiting enought or its the culture of filmmaking, but the story is giving alot of information all the time, and a few side stories and flash backs from time to time, and all in all it makes it very hard to follow the plot.
Some places were the movie could actually be very realistic and one could relate to research happening today, was skipped very rapidly. I would have liked it to be more realistic in some parts.
Some of the CGI scenes where just plain bad, like some of them where rushed to spend the money on SFX or something else. So the quality of the scenes where different from time to time.
It was in Chinese and that made it hard to follow the subtitles and at the same time see all the beautifull things in the movie, this of course is not just this movie, but in this case I found it especially sad.
All-in-All I liked the movie and the special effects but the bad things just had a large impact on me, then the good.
