Review of Casshern (2004) by Lucas K — 12 Jun 2009
On the good side, this could possibly be the most visually appealing film I've ever seen. It's simply a visual delight that makes you appreciate how good our technology has gotten these days.
On the bad side, uh... everything else. The story is very hard to follow. There's little or no introduction to the characters that we see. People die (and come back to life), and I could barely distinguish who they were. And of course, there's a little underlying message of peace and the harmful effects of war, but it's done in such a cliche way, it won't have an impact on you. Even if they were going to send a cliche'd message, it could have worked if they had some story/plot/character development, but they had none of that.
Basically, this movie will satisfy you if you want to test out your new HD-DVD/Blu Ray players or your new HDTV. It looks amazing, but it has nothing else underneath. This is the film equivalent of "Beauty is skin-deep.".
