Review of Casshern (2004) by Tim B — 11 Oct 2009
The idea behind this entire film is grand and would make a great picture. Though for lack of budget and time limitations it falls short. The play on visualizations to appeal to the anime crowd are fun and attention grabbing, but camera movements are too abrupt and quickly become confusing(another issue from lack of budget).
I would suggest this for viewers who like to study film, but not for those who like to sit back and enjoy. There are two versions to this film, one being edited for more time constraint purposes, though both still feel very rushed.
Once finished watching, it is easy to see the entire story is designed around having more film time (personally I believe 2 films would have been more adequate). Overall I give this one two thumbs up toward trying, but it just didn't have the required resources to hit it's mark.
Good set up for a more progressed remake.
