Review of Cassandra's Dream (2007) by Jay N — 02 Sep 2008
The new Woody Allen film. This time its a serious one. Has a great cast and Woody used to make great serious films (see the fantastic Crimes and Misdemeanours and the very depressing but well made Interiors).
However here the story is dull, cliche-ridden and unbelievable and the characterisation is wafer thin. Woody clearly thinks he's aspiring towards Greek Drama or Dostoyevsky here but this is worse than a very poor episode of Taggart.
Maybe time for Woody to quit-almost 10 years since his last great film. The Philip Glass score isn't too bad and does help to create some tension out of a boring storyline.
