Review of Casper (1995) by The V — 04 May 2014
This film is more about it's effects and it's sleek look and sight gags that make it a really enjoyable movie. The sappy story, however, was a bit, well, sappy. Although that doesn't take away from it's entertainment value. Just helps it become sweet and affectionate. Casper is looking for a friend. He finds one in Kat who moves into an old haunted house in New England with her dad, Dr. Harvey. He's a ghost psychiatrist who feels that ghosts are not mean spirited, but have unfinished business. That's until he meets Casper's uncle's: Stinkie, Stretch and Fatso. A subplot involving the insidious nature of a woman and her attorney consist of them trying to get some type of treasure that was left in her father's Will. They sort of ruin the story which would have been fine if it was just about Kat and her Dad moving into the house.
Casper is a pretty good family friendly movie with some nice effects and a nice Halloween themed atmosphere.
