Casino Royale gave us something that had been missing from Bond for decades - an incarnation of the hero who undergoes a genuine character arc. Seeing 007 with all his flaws and strengths laid absolutely bare is a breathtaking experience, and one which set the benchmark for action films in the 21st century.
