Review of Casino Jack (2010) by Aidan H — 21 Dec 2010
The nefarious deeds of uber lobbyist Jack Abramoff are a chilling indictment of the political culture in the US and Spacey gives it his all in his expertly-drawn characterisation of the man. Director Hickenlooper weaves a wicked tale, luring us further into the murky deals with a strong cast, masterful pacing and sublime dialogue.
Production design and cinematography are top-notch too but it is Spacey's vehicle from the moment we see him outlining his savage and selfish philosophy. Witty and scary, this is a handsome and well thought-out film, coming at just the right time for audiences sickened by recent political shenanigans.
Like his or loathe him, Casino Jack is a nervy political satire with tons of energy.
