Review of Casino (1995) by Randall A — 06 May 2011
Suffers from genre fatigue, the violence, the narration, the dialogue/language, the Italian and 50's music we've been here done this and so has Scorsese. To go along with these things it felt like it was made by a talented Scorsese copycat and not the real thing. And even though the film is almost three hours long it comes off as of it were written by someone with ADD, which could be viewed as a positive but it's pace was a bit annoying to me.
On a positive note it contains solid acting by De Niro, Pesci and Stone, but just like the overall product there's nothing special or new in these performances. On a technical side it has some quality editing and cinematography. I wanted something alittle different but what I found was the same old same and that's a big disappointment. It's well made and I wanted to love it but found myself only moderately enjoying it.
