Review of Casino (1995) by Tom P — 25 Mar 2012
A Scorsese classic that is rooted in his primeval directing-style, yet because of its loud, overly passionate, and raucous nature; Casino doesn't even quite measure up to some of Scorsese's more refined and classic gangster films, such as Goodfellas (1990), Taxi Driver (1976), or even the modern classics such as Gangs of New York (2002), or the Departed (2006).
Overall, its tried-and-true Scorsese formula of artistic violence, narrative monologues, and gang wars make the film seem not as original or as special as what this director's potential has shown us.
One thing that is to be recognized about this film, is the acting of Sharon Stone, who proves to us that her nomination for Best Actress in 1995 was well worth it.
