Review of Cashback (2007) by Mike M — 08 Apr 2009
What begins as a rather original and creative film ultimately devolves into a rather standard and cliched rom-com. There are some wonderfully quirky characters, and some nice flashback vignettes that reminded me of other great 'coming-of-sexual-age' films.
However, the film suffers from some unevenness, at times carrying a thriller film vibe, other times feeling like a teen sex comedy. I also found the concept of the main character stripping the female customers nude to 'admire their beauty' to be a little juvenile, as it seems a true artist could see the beauty in a woman wearing an ill-fitting garbage bag.
