Review of Cashback (2007) by Sebastián G — 14 Feb 2011

I know I am a bit behind, but finally caught this film yesterday. Impressive debut (although one could argue the debut was the original short) Imagine being able to stop time...what would you do? Insomniac/art student BEN has this dilemma.

I like the fact that his insomnia is post-relationship driven, and ends as he discovers a new love. I think anybody who has been CRUSHED can relate to "time standing still" Perhaps a bit heavy-handed on the director's end, but to his credit, the scenes filmed in "still-life" are wonderful images on their own, and remind you that an artist does see the world differently.

I found the verbal acknowledgment of that image to be disruptive, however. You don't have to hit me over the head with it, Mr. Ellis! Worth a watch, for sure!
