Review of Cashback (2007) by Sums I — 21 Jan 2012
Imaginative and cheeky, Sean Ellis' short film Cashback has received almost unanimous acclaim since it first visited festivals in late 2004, and with good reason. Ellis employs a plethora of stylish directional devices and wonderfully timed slap-stick gags to create a restrained, charming little film that effectively explores boredom, creativity and adoration in equal measure and has a killer central concept that genuinely avoids voyeuristic predatory urges and instead achieves a sense of refreshing innocence and naivety.
