Review of Casablanca (1943) by Ivan M — 03 May 2012
Widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, and it's completely justified. I adore the cast, I mean you physically cannot go wrong with the almighty Humphrey Bogart. Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Claude Rains, why you've even got small parts from Peter Lorre and Marcel Dalio! Every time I watch it, I love it even more.
The script is marvellous, especially Bogart's cynical character. The film is choc-full of iconic scenes. No matter how many viewings I give it, after the 'La Marseillaise' scene I constantly find myself grinning from ear to ear.
One of my all-time favourite films, and even despite being set during World War 2, it somehow remains timeless and brilliant. A Masterpiece.
