It's amazing how exciting, how tense and how involving this story and these characters are, even after seeing this movie so many times before and with the geopolitical situation it takes place in so far removed from today.
This is simply put some of the greatest filmmaking of all time. Everything is on the highest plane of quality from the dialogue, much of it justly famous, to the acting, directing, story, and music. The success in creating atmosphere and a sense of place is unbelievable, you are in Casablanca, it's another character, perhaps the main one, after all, in this ensemble film about a love triangle surrounded by desperate immigrants, corrupt officials, resistance fighters, and smarmy bar keepers.
This is one of the great arguments for the studio system, an industry which hired and cultivated talent in every arena of film production, bringing together the most talented crafts people and letting them create magic on the screen.
In 'Casablanca' a group of such people came together to make this perfect film.
