Review of Casa de Mi Padre (2012) by Kennedy B — 19 May 2012
I think the problem with this movie is also its greatest strength: it doesn't bother to take itself seriously. Just like a lot of the programs on Adult Swim, or sketches on SNL, the movie is so over-the-top and self-referential that a lot of audiences will just be totally turned off by it (and already have been). But it's also kind of charming. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than a really hilarious, ridiculous farce. And for a lot of people, the laughs are really all that matter in a comedy.
If you go in with an open mind, expecting a movie that's meticulously crafted to look like an awful Spanish soap opera, you'll find yourself laughing at one funny-ass movie.
