Review of Casa de Mi Padre (2012) by Joey E — 24 Jun 2012
Like "Black Dynamite," "Hot Fuzz," or "Planet Terror," this is the exact type of parody I love, one that mocks the conventions and cliches of a particular genre rather than just recreate famous movie scenes.
In other words, if you took out some of the more obvious jokes, this could've easily been a real film of its kind played straight, that's how effective it is as a recreation. From the lighting to the film stock to the wardrobe to the absurd plot twists and technical "gaffes," this thing is a spot-on deconstruction of melodramatic Spanish-language films of the '70s.
