Review of Cartel Land (2015) by Kevin G — 29 Feb 2016
Along the Mexican border and further into Mexico there is a whole different world. The world of the cartels, the innocent people, the vigilantes and the militias trying to keep drugs out of America. This is a powerful and shocking story about 2 men.
One on the American side patrolling the border and the other man who tries to take back the towns that the cartel has claimed. Dr. Jose Mireles is an ordinary citizen who decided to fight back against these criminal organizations and bring peace to mexico.
On the US side is Tim Foley who lives in Arizona and fights to keep the drugs out. The movement that Dr. Mireles started was once a polarizing force in uniting the people in the small towns, now though as the government intervenes it becomes a cartel in it's own.
This is a horrifying look at the cycle of power and violence in Mexico. Without the government to help the people, the communities continue to be in the crossfire. The lines between the criminals and the honest people begin to blur as power is shown to corrupt even those who consider themselves the good.
