Review of Cars 3 (2017) by Kurt B — 19 Jun 2017
The Cars franchise seems to be an easy target for criticism. It isn't Pixar's strongest property and it's an odd world to have stories in. Not to mention the fact that it's last sequel wasn't very good.
With 2017's summer already filled with cash grab tentpole movies. How does Cars 3 fare? Short answer; very good. Lightning MccQueen's story in short is a mix between 2006's Rocky Baboa & 2015's Creed.
He is racing past his prime and suffers an accident. For reasons I won't say here, he decides to race the upcoming season. His reasonings are strong enough to justify the journey back to the top. Newcomer characters serve well for the story and some of the old characters screen time has been cut.
The animation is a true stand out, with environments looking photo realistic and cars zooming around beautifully.
