Review of Cars (2006) by Fallon B — 05 Aug 2013
It's typically conventional to not question the premise of 'Cars', but it's something I couldn't help but question. An entire world populated by talking vehicles? The hell? Anyway, Cars is pretty bland on the inside: it has a pretty lame story, blandly written characters and messages and way too many characters to count as this may very well be the most shamelessly long toy advert in history.
I'll give Cars some credit though: its beautifully animated, but then again what isn't these days? It has a pretty good race sequence in the third act and a moment that really stuck with me. Think of Cars as a Ferrari with no interior, just a hollow shell: it's pretty on the outside and looks pretty damn cool, but no matter what you think of it you still can't f**king drive.
The first official Pixar dud, I'm afraid.
