Review of Cars 2 (2011) by Jeremy C — 01 Oct 2014

This sequel is not really necessary. But as a stand alone animation it is quite entertaining. Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) return to the small town to catch up with his friends especially Mater (Larry the cable guy).

Elsewhere a super spy Finn McMissile (Michael Caine) go onboard a vessel to snap picture of a camera belonging to Professor Z (Thomas Kretschmann). He manage to escape and fake his own death in sea. Miles Axelrod (Eddie Izzard) invented a new type of fuel that is better and will soon put good old petrol as history.

He invite all the top race cars for his 3 days World Grand Prix. Lightning decline to meet his friends. An F1 race car Francesco Bernoulli (John Turturro) snub him and claim he is the best racer in the world.

Mater call in to defend his friend and Lightning accept the challenge, and also bring him along. Finn met up an analysis Holley Shiftwell (Emily Motimer) in the party, to meet their CIA counterpart for the photos.

Mater is making a fool of himself and embarrassing Lightning. In the toilet, the CIA agent fights the henchmen. He planted the device under Mater. Finn and Holley thought Mater is the CIA agent when he answer exactly the code word of meeting with Holley.

He says to meet at the grand prix. The others don't believe Mater got a date with a hot babe. In the first race, Finn saw a few baddies closing in on Mater. He give wrong instruction to Lightning and lose the race.

Lightning scolded him and ask him to go home. Finn beat up the baddies and impress Mater. Holley take the device from him and examine the photo which is an old engine. Mater identify the parts and off they go to find a black market dealer.

The camera is actually a solar heat gun which long exposure to the new fuel will combust. The 2nd race many cars are combusted. Lightning win this time. Many are questioning Axel if the fuel is problematic and should the 3rd race go on.

Lightning continue his support. Mater disguise as a baddie truck to attend a meeting of all the evil cars. They are all old models who are laughed at, abandoned. The mastermind engine wants all the new cars to know their old power and ridicule back at them.

Their next target is Lightning. Mater cover is blown and captured. Finn and Holley are trying to stop the baddies operating the camera and caught. Mater, Finn and Holley are trapped to death in the clock tower.

Mater manage to break the ropes and escape to save his best friend. Holley turn back the machine and save themselves. Lots of cars are busted. However it didn't work on Lightning. The baddies are all rounded up with the help of the other cars as well.

Mater says Axelrod is the mastermind. He is old engine and hate the new engines. The friends make up. Happy ending in the end.
