Review of Carry On Abroad (1972) by Stuart K — 28 Jan 2009
The 24th Carry On film made, set abroad, but all filmed in England. It would prove to be the last time alot of the regular cast would be in the same film together, but there's still alot of fun to be had.
It begins with pub landlord Vic Flange (Sid James) begrudgingly taking his wife Cora (Joan Sims) on holiday with him, to the Spanish resort of Elsbels. :P (He was going with local flirt Sadie Tomkins (Barbara Windsor).
The holiday is set up by Wundatours, with the snidey Stuart Farquhar (Kenneth Williams) as their representative. Also on the trip are Mummy's boy Eustace Tuttle, (Charles Hawtrey, his last Carry On), loud Scotsman Bert Conway (Jimmy Logan), the prude Evelyn Blunt (June Whitfield), and her stressed husband Stanley (Kenneth Connor).
When they get there, the hotel isn't finished. And everything crumbles around them. :P There's alot of laughs in this one, and it does prove to be one of the last great Carry On films before the sad decline, and it pokes fun at the craze in package holidays, and the attitude of Brits abroad.
It's still good fun though. :P.
