Review of Carrie (2013) by Bryon M — 29 May 2014
Completely unnecessary remake. Misses every mark of the novel in almost every way. The biggest misstep is with Sue and Tommy. There is no chance at sympathy for them because the act comes off as phony here.
And sadly even though they are not the main characters they are the characters that the audience are supposed to identify with to ground the movie in sympathy for Carrie to set up the end. Now for Margret White.
Juliane Moore gives a very grounded performance which is fine but this is a horror movie and frankly doesn't feel like she's in the right movie. Next is the Telekinesis itself. Over done. Plain and simple.
To much and since your supposed to use your mind it would have been creepier if things just happened instead of telegraphed by mimic an action. Again Chloe does a good job but her clean up for prom is all wrong.
Frankly she's too pretty for the part. Overall just a complete fail on its own merits without a need to compare to the DePalma version.
