Not a bad movie, really. Julianne Moore's peformance as compared to Piper Laurie's portrayal of Carrie's mother in the original 1976 version might even be superior. She is much more subtle, not so over the top, bordering on camp as Laurie was.

In these days of political correctness, though, the film lacks the visceral punch to the gut of the original. the 1976 version is ugly and brutal, unashamedly so. the horrors perpetrated on Carrie here are softened a bit, and some of the more horrible moments (I mainly noticed it during the pig-killing scene) are shortened considerably.

so, basically, carrie-light. worthwhile, but you could skip it and check out sissy spacek instead.
