Review of Carrie (2013) by Andrew T — 31 Jan 2014
This re-make pales to the original, which it mirrors with nothing fresh to add. The greatest flaw being that Chloe Moretz, while a talented young actress in other endeavors, is grossly miscast as Carrie. Even with no makeup, wearing drab clothing, and lots of overdone fearful glances, she is far too glamorous & confident an actress to make the role of the meek, naive, insecure, and super-awkward Carrie White believable. Its like casting a Barbie doll as a Cabbage Patch Kid...it just DOESN'T work. If they had made Moretz up with an over-bite, honker nose, and an eye twitch to work with..she probably could have ran away with the role and changed the entire mood of the movie.
Hope to see more psychotic roles by Julianne Moore, as she was quite convincing as the mother.
