Review of Carrie (2002) by Brandon M — 17 Jul 2014
This particular remake of Carrie is more visually and mentally captivating than its predecessors, giving more of an insight into the emotional aspect of Carrie's life rather than the mystery of her abilities, making the movie's genre, in my opinion, more of a beautifully tragic drama than horror.
Some points in the movie can be slightly sluggish, and by the end there is something left to be desired, mostly due to the fact that the ending is so stunningly similar to the original Carrie, when it would have preferred to see an ending more reminiscent of the book.
The scene at the prom is far more interesting than that of the original, and here one can see the beauty of computer generated effects to portray such a fascinating ability, even in a society where CGI is becoming so stigmatized.
In general, though, this new Carrie is a glossy and far more glamorous film than the original, and rather than being scary and wide-eyed (I'm talking to you, Miss Spacek), it is more dramatic, beautiful and oddly satisfying.
