(3 Stars) We really have to stop saying the phrase "unnecessary remake," because what exactly makes any remake necessary? If there's a one-second review of Carrie that I've been pounded with, it's that the film is an unnecessary remake. Come on, guys. Not all remakes are good, but this "remake = instantly bad" mentality has to stop. It's only going to affect your enjoyment of the movie.

Anyway, Carrie is not bad. It's not great, but it's no travesty either. It follows the original pretty closely but updates the story for the smartphone era. Maybe some of the high school girls are a little too evil in the film, but I swear, YouTube has made it easier to be an evil teen girl.

The two leads in this movie, Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore are great and elevate it above a Prom Night (2008)-esque snoozefest. The one huge thing the film had going against it is that EVERYBODY knows how this movie ends. Even people who haven't seen Brian DePalma's Carrie know there's a prom massacre. She's covered in blood in the trailer, so how can we be surprised? But what can you do? It's Carrie... how are you not going to end it in a bloodbath?
