Review of Carrie (2002) by Matthew T — 21 Mar 2014
There is little new to this remake, other than the special effects were updated and they seemed to spend a little more time on Carries exploration of her "powers." What separated the original and this one was the originals brutal depiction of the death of EVERYONE at the end as Carries rage was so complete she slaughtered even those who showed her kindness. The remake shows Carrie with a conscience. Picking and choosing who lived based on the way they treated her. Sissy Spaceks original Carrie-rage was simple and intense. Moretz' take was cheesy. Choosing to indicate with arms and twisted fingers and a lot of goofy facial expressions.
Altogether the movie felt unnecessary and added nothing new.
