Review of Carousel (2013) by Allyson S — 27 Aug 2007
Uninspired and medicore adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein masterpiece. Hammerstein's original libretto is much better than the script for the film. The direction also lacks flair. However, the orchestrations are orgasmic and Gordon MacRae gives the best performance of Soliloquy.
Ever. It's a shame this film is so third tier, because it truly is a great American musical. People don't get that from this film. Unfortuanely, another one of those great musicals, Gypsy, got the same film treatment.
