Review of Carousel (2013) by Mark N — 16 Jan 2010

There are plenty of reasons why this movie shouldn't really work - including a lengthy dream ballet sequence, a subplot that points out how sometimes being hit can feel like a kiss, and a filler song actually called "That was a real nice clambake".

But despite all that the film is pretty affecting, with two great lead performances, some beautiful Cinemascope vistas, and some heavy melodrama tactics that land when they need to.
