Review of Carol (2015) by Barry T — 25 Nov 2015
Todd Haynes is an amazing director and this film is in the same vein as Far from Heaven. Based on a Patricia Highsmith novel about a housewife and shop girl who fall in love. It looks astounding from the lighting to costumes.
Its extremely slow but overall watchable and Mara + Blanchett are compelling. Mara in particular blossoms throughout the film and Blanchett has a career best performance here. Its not going to be for everyone as its utterly cold but beguiling.
