Review of Carol (2015) by Pizzagurl — 10 Dec 2015
Having read and heard so many great reviews, I was so disappointed with my experience of this film. The acting is over egged with Blanchett playing the privileged confident older woman and Mara the doe-eyed innocent shop-girl.
Also, the chemistry is virtually non-existent due to this, sapless plot and uninspiring dialogue. There was relatively little ground covered regarding attitudes towards same sex relationships during that period which makes the setting somewhat pointless.
It would like to see itself as enchanting, aesthetically stimulating, ground breaking...it just didn't deliver on these promises. It's great to see a film about a non-hetero relationship being so successful, there was just such little depth to the actual storytelling.
