Review of Carol (2015) by Tor M — 01 May 2016
This is actually my first Todd Haynes film. It's about an aspiring photographer named Therese that develops an relationship with an older lady.
Cool story - a safe bet, but when it's done 60 years back in time it's suddenly much more interesting - that's the trick. Another good thing is that isn't made too complicated. It's an easy watch, it makes it enjoyable. The performances are fantatic. Cate is brilliant and demands your full interest. She owns every second on screen.
A subtle and beautiful film with great colors and locations. There's a great score here too.
The pace is fine, never flat or boring - carried by the two leads - they captured the nervous excitement of falling in love brilliantly. The love-scenes are few and never overdone. Another plus. This is first and foremost a romantic drama and it's well executed.
8 out of 10 gloves.
