Review of Carol (1990) by Benjamin B — 25 Dec 2015
First things first. Cate Blanchett is the kind of name that makes you think she must be really famous and really good. Actually she is neither. So if you "recognize" the name, kinda' and think she's a "big star" - you are wrong.
She hasn't really done much that is memorable or meaningful and she is dull as dishwater. Having said this, the title of this movie tells you everything. It's about Carol. But there's almost no dialog, certainly no action, no drama .
. . it's a moving about nothing (but not in a good way, like Seinfeld). It's HEAVILY stylized, noir, period-piece. Very heavy handed in the acting and cinematography. But no character development and no story.
Nothing happens at all and what little does happen is pointless and random. PS The 30 second sex scene with the girls shows the co-star laying on her back, so you don't see her titties, just her nipples and you get a long side shot of the stars tits.
Not worth the price of admission, as I had hoped. Kinda' a cross between Kramer vs. Kramer and Sorority Hazing Party 3.
