The best trait of Carol does not come from its daring plot or cinematography, but rather Rooney Mara's acting. As Therese, Mara's passion is able to elevate a fairly bland script to unforeseen heights.
With apologies to fellow star Cate Blanchett, I feel pretty safe in saying Carol is a one-woman show.
