Review of Carnival of Souls (1962) by Patrick B — 05 Jan 2010
I recognize that this is a film with a very low budget, so they couldn't afford top of the line effects, or experienced actors, but this is still a bad film. The screenplay is dodgy with one-dimensional characters and tons of awkward moments.
The ghosts just seem to run around and chase the lead. It reminded me of some videos in my movie making class where the kids are just running around and having fun trying to look scary. There's no suspense.
It's just like "Oh, they look like they had fun making this crappy movie." The main character encounters a guy across the hall who tries to date her, and that guy ended up freaking me out more than the ghosts.
Carnival of Souls is probably one of the lamest horror films I've ever seen.
