Review of Carnage (2002) by Tom H — 02 Jul 2012
It's been labeled a comedy. Personally, I think it is everything but. It's a scathing piece of modern day social criticism pointing at some very relevant flaws in our (Western) behavior. Brilliantly acted, well directed and perfectly adapted and transposed from the French, this play does not make any sense in the final analysis.
My beef in this play is not with what happens, but the premise Ms Reza used. Why do these people even bother with each other? There is no reason for them to put up with all this bile. One third into the play the protagonists should have taken the only reasonable option anyone else would have picked: The front door.
