Not near as good as the original, though viewed completely independently it's not a bad movie. It would be hard for any actor to match Al Pacino. I am not sure if the writers intended it to be seen as a legitimate prequel because if so it doesn't make sense given the later story in Carlito's Way, unless alot of things radically change for Carlito.
