Review of Carlito's Way: Rise to Power (2005) by George P — 22 Jan 2010
I really enjoyed this film. Nice bit of retro gangster action, lovely clothes and despite his best efforts Carlito does not die (unlike the classic original). It had a interesting plot with some annoying brothers (I was especially annoyed Sigfreido did not get shot).
I liked the ironic use of Luis Guzman as a coke snorting hitman, he almost stole the show!! One of the best bits was without a doubt Mario Van Peebels stripy pyjama suit, awe inspiring. I met a man who thought he was Carlito and he was a cunt but he looked like a chubby Jay Hernandez, I hope he gets crabs (not Jay Hernandez the prick who looks like him).
