Review of Carlito's Way (1993) by Julio S — 29 Sep 2011
One of Pacino's best performances and one of his (and De Palma's) best films. In my opinion this is better than Scarface as it is less concerned with the material excesses of the world the lead character finds himself in and focuses a lot more instead on his struggles to extract himself from that world, which makes him a much more empathatic character and gives this film a lot more heart and enhances the tragic undertone.
A classic of its kind, the last half an hour especially is cinema at its best.
