Review of Carlito's Way (1993) by Ratnakar S — 20 Oct 2010
What if Tony Montana had turned himself over to the law, and gone straight? He would be Carlito Briganze.
Brilliant gangster flick, that quite often is overshadowed by Scarface. Pacino burns up the screen, as usual playing the titular role, of the bad guy who wanna goes straight.
The scene stealer however is Sean Penn, as Pacino's sleazy, corrupt, crooked lawyer friend Dave, totally unrecognizable in a 70's style get up.
Penelope Ann Miller is ok, but compared to Michelle Pfeiffer's ice cold super bitch act in Scarface, this one falls short.
Watch it still, if not for anything, a brilliantly shot and edited pool room fight scene, that is vintage De Palma.
